Set up iK POS

Updated

Get the iK POS device, card machine, cash drawer, internet connection, printer and product information ready before trading.

Set up iK POS before you start trading. iK POS uses Poster POS software for orders and business management, while an iKhokha card machine works alongside the POS for card payments.

Essential hardware

  1. iK POS device

  2. iK card machine

  3. Cash drawer

  4. Stable internet connection

Connect the iK POS device to the internet

Connect the iK POS device to a fast, stable Wi-Fi connection before opening Poster. iK POS needs a reliable internet connection to load and sync correctly.

Prepare your products or menu

Before you start trading, make sure the products, dishes or services you plan to sell have the information needed for your setup. Useful product information includes:

  • name;

  • category;

  • barcode;

  • type, such as Product for an item bought and sold as-is or Dish for an item made from ingredients;

  • selling price;

  • whether the item is sold by weight; and

  • the station that prepares or supplies the item, such as the kitchen or bar.

If your setup uses ingredients, prepare the ingredient name, category, unit and any processing-loss percentages that apply. Use 0 where a processing loss is not being tracked.

Open Poster and sign in

Open Poster on the iK POS device and sign in with the register username and password for your setup. If you need help finding the register details, see Open and sign in to iK POS.

Use your card machine alongside iK POS

iK POS manages the order and calculates the final total. For card payments, use your iK Flyer or iK Flyer Lite alongside iK POS to take the payment.

Set up and link your card machine to your iKhokha profile before using it alongside iK POS. If the card machine is not set up yet, see Set up your card machine.

Set up the built-in printer

  1. Swipe up from the bottom-left of the iK POS device screen to open the tray of icons.

  2. Select Bluetooth.

  3. Switch Bluetooth on. Inner Printer should appear.

  4. Return to Poster and select the menu icon in the top-right corner.

  5. Select Functions.

  6. Select Devices.

  7. Select Inner Printer from the list on the left.

  8. Choose what you want the built-in printer to print, such as receipts or station tickets.

  9. Select Print a test receipt to test the printer.

If you use an external printer, it appears as ESC/POS in the device list. Select the printer and choose what you want it to print.

Check the setup before opening

  • The iK POS device has a stable internet connection.

  • Your products, dishes or services are visible and priced correctly.

  • Poster opens and you can sign in.

  • Your iK card machine is powered, connected and ready for card payments.

  • The built-in printer is connected and can print a test receipt.

  • The cash drawer is ready for cash payments.

Once setup is complete, see Take your first order with iK POS. If something is not working, see iK POS troubleshooting.
