iK Tap on Phone troubleshooting
- iKhokha App (Android)
Fix missing options, card-reading timeouts and Verification Failed messages on your Android phone.
If iK Tap on Phone will not enable or can't read a card, start with the phone and app checks below. Then use the section that matches the message or problem you see.
iK Tap on Phone is missing
Check that you are using an Android phone running Android 9 or higher, NFC is available and switched on, your iKhokha profile is approved to accept payments and the iKhokha app is up to date.
If NFC is off, open your phone’s Settings and switch it on. It is usually under Connections or Wireless & Networks.
Open the iKhokha app and use Settings → Help → About Device to check whether Device Supports Tap on Phone confirms that the phone is supported. You can compare the result with Which phones work with iK Tap on Phone.
If the phone is supported, see Set up iK Tap on Phone and check the setup steps before continuing.
The phone does not read the card
Check that NFC is switched on.
Ask the customer to use a contactless card.
Hold the card against the back of the phone, around the middle or upper area.
Keep the phone and card still while the app reads the card.
A vibration means the NFC reader has made contact with the card. If you don't feel it, move the card slightly across the back of the phone and hold it still while the app tries to read it. If the card still is not read, try another contactless card to check whether the problem is with the card or the phone.
The payment timed out
Your customer needs to tap the card within the 30-second countdown. If the app does not read the card in that time, restart the payment and hold the card against the back of the phone until it vibrates or the four dots turn yellow. Check your internet connection if the timeout keeps happening.
The app shows Verification Failed
iK Tap on Phone uses security checks when it is enabled and when a payment starts. If one of those checks fails, the app may show Verification Failed.
Allow camera access when the iKhokha app asks for it. The app checks that your camera is not in use while your customer taps a card on the back of your phone.
Check your internet connection and try again.
Make sure the iKhokha app is up to date.
Sign out of the app and log back in.
Stop any active screen mirroring or casting.
Check whether Developer Options or Android Debug Bridge (ADB) is enabled. Switch these off before trying again.
Untrusted keyboard, screen-reader or other apps can also affect security checks. If you rely on an accessibility or keyboard app, keep it enabled while you troubleshoot iK Tap on Phone.
If Verification Failed keeps returning
If Verification Failed keeps returning after the checks above, contact iKhokha Support on 087 222 7000 or support@ikhokha.com and explain when the message appears, your phone model and which checks you tried. Only clear the app's data or cache, change advanced security settings or remove apps if iKhokha Support asks you to.
If you need to set it up again, see Set up iK Tap on Phone. Once setup is complete, see Take a payment with iK Tap on Phone for the payment steps.
