Accept tips

Turn on tips on your card machine, then let the customer choose a preset tip or enter a custom amount before the card payment starts. The customer sees the total including the tip before they pay.

Turn tips on

1. Open Settings on the card machine.

2. Select Controls.

3. Switch Include tip on.

Once tips are on, the Add a tip screen appears during the card-payment steps. To stop asking customers about tips, switch Include tip off in Controls.

Take a payment with a tip

1. Start a New sale.

2. If you want to record a staff member for the sale, select Add sale details, enter the optional Staff ID, then select Save.

3. Enter the sale amount or add the items being sold.

4. Select Charge.

5. If the machine asks for a payment method, select Card payment.

6. Show the customer the Add a tip screen.

7. Let the customer choose a preset tip or select Custom and enter their chosen amount.

8. Check Total after tip with the customer.

9. Select Proceed to payment.

The customer should make their own tip choice. Let the customer choose their own tip. Check Total after tip with the customer before they present their card.

Complete the card payment

Continue with the normal card-payment prompts. Let the customer tap, insert or swipe where supported, enter their PIN if asked and wait for Card payment successful. Keep the receipt or transaction record if you need to reconcile the sale later. To finish taking the card payment, see Take a card payment.

If the customer does not want to tip

Let the customer choose the no-tip option shown on the screen, then check the total before selecting Proceed to payment.
